Introducing Lotus Wind
The Lotus Wind project provides an opportunity to help address Illinois' growing electricity demand with clean, homegrown energy, while diversifying Macoupin County economy and supporting jobs in the local community.
Lotus Wind will create jobs and generate an entirely new source of long-term revenue for local schools, governments, and landowners. In the long term, the project promises to bring sustained tax revenue to the county for the local government and schools, as well as more than 30 years of local purchasing, employment, and investment.

AN ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY FOR Macoupin County
Lotus Wind will create jobs and generate an entirely new source of long-term revenue for local schools, government services, and property owners. The total direct financial impact to the region will be in the tens of millions of dollars over the life of the project, with additional indirect economic benefi ts to the local economy. In particular, the project will generate roughly $49 million in new property tax revenues in its first 30 years, with roughly $31 million going to school districts in the project area. In addition, the project will generate hundreds of jobs and significant local spending during construction, and approximately 9 long-term full-time jobs at a local operations and maintenance facility in Macoupin County.
Landowners who participate in the project will receive annual royalty payments based on acreage leased and the types of wind facilities located on their property. These payments will continue over the projected 30-year lifespan of the wind farm, injecting millions of dollars into the economies of Macoupin County to support local merchants, contractors, equipment suppliers, auto dealers, and others.
