Introducing Lotus Wind

The Lotus Wind project provides an opportunity to help address Illinois' growing electricity demand with clean, homegrown energy, while diversifying Macoupin County economy and supporting jobs in the local community.

Lotus Wind will create jobs and generate an entirely new source of long-term revenue for local schools, governments, and landowners. In the long term, the project promises to bring sustained tax revenue to the county for the local government and schools, as well as more than 30 years of local purchasing, employment, and investment.

AN ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY FOR Macoupin County

Lotus Wind will create jobs and generate an entirely new source of long-term revenue for local schools, government services, and property owners. The total direct financial impact to the region will be in the tens of millions of dollars over the life of the project, with additional indirect economic benefits to the local economy.

ECONOMIC IMPACT ANALYSIS: CLICK HERE TO LEARN HOW MACOUPIN COUNTY WOULD BENEFIT FROM LOTUS WIND

Our analysis quantifies the economic opportunity for Macoupin County if Lotus Wind is constructed. Tax revenues of over $57 million over the life of the project, including over $37 million in taxes for school districts, and new earnings of over $1.9 million annually in Macoupin County alone once operational.

Landowners who participate in the project will receive annual royalty payments based on acreage leased and the types of wind facilities located on their property. These payments will continue over the projected 30-year lifespan of the wind farm, injecting millions of dollars into the economies of Macoupin County to support local merchants, contractors, equipment suppliers, auto dealers, and others.
